The Heart of Occupation
Seven hundred hardcore Jewish settlers live among 160,000 Palestinians in Hebron, a city considered almost as holy as Jerusalem. Last week, an Israeli court ordered settlers to leave a home that the court determined they were occupying illegally. The settlers, who are no strangers to violence, refused. Now, a tense waiting game ensues while the army prepares to uphold the ruling.The Jewish section of the city is a closed military zone, and I was denied access (see the video on the Multiple Reality Disorder blog). So I visited the majority Arab part, to see for myself what living under heavy occupation is like.

The Acre Aftermath
On the eve of Yom Kippur last month, an Arab man drove through a Jewish area in the mixed city of Acre. A group of Jewish youths attacked him and, though he escaped unharmed, the incident sparked a series of violent clashes between Jews and Arabs, resulting in damage to dozens of shops and cars, and 16 homes of Arab families were attacked. Fourteen of those families were temporarily displaced, and three remain unsettled because their homes were destroyed.
